SUMMARY

Globalization has made intercultural communication more prevalent and significant than
ever before. Communication that crosses social and cultural boundaries is referred to as
intercultural communication. It is used to define a broad range of communication processes and

issues that inevitably develop in a group of people that come from different educational,
socioeconomic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. In different cultures, several types of
nonverbal communication have distinct meanings. If we have fundamentally different

perspectives about reality, then any attempt to improve communication or increase our material
resources will fail because we may not be addressing the deeper issues that continue to fuel

               conflict.

One of the major barriers to intrapersonal communication is attitude. Attitudinal barriers
emerge due to each individual‟s unique comparisons, based on their beliefs, past experiences,

fears, hopes and expectations in communication. Both verbal and nonverbal modes of
communication are used by people everywhere. Our ability to integrate into global society will
be facilitated by improved intercultural communication abilities.
