3.2.2. PERSONAL APPEARANCE IN PUBLIC SPEAKING

Personal appearance also plays a huge part in public speaking, especially in the aspect

of delivery. There is a basic standard for acceptable personal grooming in public speaking
situations. The standard is that the speaker‟s dress should be appropriate to the occasion. If the
occasion is a formal one, the speaker is expected to dress formally. If the occasion is casual,

the speaker‟s clothing can be less formal.

A speaker who shows up at a formal occasion in a T-shirt and shorts not only displays a

lack of audience analysis but is also very likely to lose credibility with the audience. Similarly,
wearing formal business attire to speak at a casual gathering is also inappropriate. In short, be

sure your clothing matches the style and setting of the occasion.

Personal appearance is a complex combination of social norms, cultural and

generational influences, and personal style. Your personal appearance should match your
communicative objective, which is to have your words and ideas taken seriously by the
audience. Delivery begins the moment the audience sees you, so pay careful attention to your

personal appearance and present yourself appropriately for the occasion at which you are
               speaking.

                  3.2.3. CLOTHES AND GROOMING

An individual‟s personal look reflects his or her mindset. Wearing well-fitting, ironed
clothing and appropriate accessories can give the impression that you are well-dressed. In a

crowd, it makes you stand out. The qualities of your CV are important in a job interview, but how
you present yourself and handle yourself is more important.

The ideal candidate considers the firm to which he or she is applying for a job, as well as
the duties involved, and dresses appropriately. He also considers the season, whether it
issummer, winter, or monsoon, as well as the time of the interview, whether morning, afternoon,

or evening. It assists him in making a long-lasting initial impression.

Clothing and other artifacts are powerfully significant and convey a great deal of detailed
information about someone's job, personality, values and lifestyle. Of course, the most obvious
