3.3.1. Facial Expressions and the messages
The expressions on faces tell us many things, including the following:
Whether the participants find the interaction pleasant or unpleasant
How interested an individual is in sustaining or terminating contact
The degree of involvement of the participants
Whether responses during the conversation are spontaneous or controlled
The extent to which messages are understood and shared
According to Paul Ekman’s study, there are seven universal emotions:
Happiness
Sadness
Fear
Disgust
Anger
Contempt
Surprise
Each of these emotions has its own set of facial expressions that can be observed in people. It
varies from person to person, even cultures.
